Meet the Maker Monday - St.Leon Gardens

Jardins St. Leon Gardens is the friendliest place to go and shop if you like "fresh" and "local"! We at Makers Move Manitoba definetly love St. Leons and here are a few reasons why;

Meet Denis, Dan, and Lise of Jardins St-Léon Gardens. St Leon originally began as a small youth farming project by Denis Rémillard and Lise Mulaire, who would hire the kids of St-Léon to help them on the farm, teaching them some valuable life lessons in the process. This started in 1979. Since then, the business has changed focused, and has transformed into a quaint, bilingual outdoor market. St-Léon Gardens features an extensive array of fresh locally grown and produce foods in the St-Boniface/St-Vital area. Their tag line "Real" food identifies   everything that is Manitoban.

Why the quotation marks?
The families' grandparents would always describe local food as "Vrai" or "Real". Therefore, they try to honour their grandparents' expression as a direct quote reminiscent of the days when rural farm living was generally widespread, and eating farm fresh food was a regular aspect of life.

Staff:
Nowadays, St-Léon Gardens carries the tradition of helping youth build work experience, and hires over 30 university and high-school students. They have been said to have some of the friendliest staff in town, which is mainly due to the fact that they all love what they do, and adore the products they sell. The staff is continuously told: If you wouldn't buy it yourself, don't sell it. This ensures that everyone sporting the iconic green St-Léon t-shirt always has a smile on his or her face, even while running around in the extremely busy summer months.

Products:
Although St-Léon shines in their wide selection of "Real" Veggies, Berries, and Fruits, it also boasts an impressive assortment of locally made items sourced from dozens of local food makers such as pies, meats, jams, cheeses, bread, and mouth-watering pastries,
